At Saint Paul’s, we seek to provide a safe and welcoming place for children and their families. All of our prospective employees and volunteers have obtained clearances, in compliance with state requirements, as follows: (1) Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP); (2) if you will be working with children or youth you will need a Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services, additionally (3) if you have lived outside the state of Pennsylvania within the last ten years, and you will be working with children and youth, you are required to obtain a fingerprint-based Federal Criminal History (FBI) submitted through the Department of Human Services or its authorized agent.

At Saint Paul’s, ALL prospective employees and volunteers must obtain the following clearances:

(1) Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP).

(2) If you will be working with children or youth you will need a Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services.

(3) Additionally, if you have lived outside the state of Pennsylvania within the last ten years, and you will be working with children and youth, you are required to obtain a fingerprint-based Federal Criminal History (FBI) submitted through the Department of Human Services or its authorized agent.

To begin the process each person must first fill out the applicable application (appendix A or B) in the Safe Church Policy.

The following links will take you directly to the applicable websites. The below link will take you to the Department of Human Services and provides detailed instructions on how to obtain each clearance:

The below link is for the Pennsylvania State Patrol Criminal Background Check.  It provides instructions for how to complete the process for both on-line and via the mail:

The Pennsylvania State Police has also established a web-based computer application called “Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History” (PATCH). Using this system, a requester can apply for a criminal background check on an individual.  Eighty-five percent of the time, “No Record” certificates are returned immediately through the Internet to the requester.  You can go directly to this link and process your “volunteer” background check for free by clicking on the yellow new record check button (when completed print out a copy of your record check and return it to the church office):

The below link will take you to Child Welfare Information Solutions where you can start your Child Abuse History clearance  (click on the 'create individual account' button to begin the process):

If you are required to provide an FBI criminal background check with fingerprints, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services utilizes IDEMIA to process fingerprint-based FBI criminal background checks.  If you require this step use the first link on page 1 to get to the Department of Human Services instruction page and read the instructions before beginning.  If you are familiar with the process, the below link will take you to the company’s website (the service code you will use is 1KG6ZJ as a DHS Volunteer):
